Dr. Dennis Shem Appointed Director of Inpatient Dental Medicine and Surgery

Dr. Dennis Shem has been appointed Director of Inpatient Dental Medicine and Surgery at Stanford Health Care, beginning in May 2026.

In this new role, Shem will help lead and further develop inpatient dental and surgical services across Stanford Health Care, supporting multidisciplinary collaboration and patient care initiatives.

As director, Dr. Shem will be responsible for the inpatient consult service. This includes coverage of the Emergency Department, perioperative clearances, and OR scheduling. A key part of the role is close integration with medicine, surgery, ICU, transplant, and oncology teams to ensure seamless perioperative and inpatient care and alignment with hospital quality and safety initiatives.

Dr. Shem is Clinical Assistant Professor in the Division of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery.
