INSIDE CSPS 2026: Stanford Plastic Surgery Recap

April 9-12, 2026

The 2026 California Society of Plastic Surgeons (CSPS) Annual Meeting was held in Huntington Beach, CA from April 9–12. Stanford Plastic Surgery had several contributions throughout the meeting.

Arash Momeni, Scientific Program Co-Chair for this year's meeting, shared: “Being involved in societies like the CSPS really matters because it brings people together to share ideas and keep pushing the field forward. Taking on the role of Scientific Program Chair is especially meaningful as it’s a chance to shape the conversation and create a meeting that people walk away from feeling inspired and energized about where plastic surgery is headed.”

Highlights

  • Faculty Dr. Arash Momeni served as Scientific Program Co-Chair.
  • Faculty Drs. Nicholas Bene and Travis Miller co-moderated an e-poster session.
  • Faculty Dr. Rohit Khosla moderated a paper session, participated in the Medical Student Speed Dating session as a mentor, and was an invited lecturer on the rhinoplasty session, "Aesthetic Rhinoplasty – How to Make It Safe."
  • Faculty Drs. David Kahn and Joshua Korman led the panel "Aesthetic Surgery – The Facelift: What I Do, What I Don’t, and Why It Matters."
  • Research fellow Hannah A. Sample from the Fox Lab presented "Characterizing nerve changes proximal and distal to the site of compression in a murine model of chronic nerve compression."

Awards

  • Faculty Dr. Michael Longaker delivered the Brody Family Lecture, “Why Do We Scar: Can It Be Prevented?”
  • Resident Michelle Griffin competed in the Resident Best Paper Competition and placed first for her presentation:
“Overcoming Foreign Body Response through Modulation of Mechanically Sensitive Fibroblast Subpopulation Behaviour.” This work focuses on why scar tissue forms around breast implants and identifies a specific group of cells driving that process. By targeting these cells, the study shows a potential way to reduce excessive scarring and improve outcomes for patients.
  • Faculty Dr. James Chang received the Academician of the Year Award.

The 77th Annual Meeting will take place April 9–11, 2027 at the Claremont Resort and Club in Berkeley.
