Plastic Surgery Faculty Dr. Dung Nguyen and General Surgery Faculty Dr. Irene Wapnir have received the Stanford Cancer Institute Innovation Award for their proposal on “Volume and Symmetry Outcomes in Unilateral Omentum-Based Breast Reconstruction” to study the long-term results of a novel form of breast reconstruction originated at Stanford.
Omentum-Based Breast Reconstruction is an innovative way to rebuild the breast using a membrane in the abdomen called the omentum and the patient’s unwanted body fat. It offers women an alternative to implants and other conventional tissue-based reconstruction with the additional advantage of minimal scars, less postoperative pain, shorter hospitalization, and quicker recovery!
