For Prospective Applicants

Stanford Plastic Surgery offers a 4-week clerkship (SURG 339A) for fourth-year medical students interested in learning more about our field. The rotation offers a broad exposure to the many different clinical facets of plastic surgery from burn care to complex reconstructive procedures. Students will also have the opportunity to work in a variety of practice settings.
The rotation consists of four one-week rotations that take place at the participating hospitals in the Stanford plastic surgery residency program: Stanford Hospital, Santa Clara Valley County Hospital, and Santa Clara Kaiser. Students will meet and work with faculty from all these hospitals. The students will work as members of the clinical teams and participate in the clinical care of plastic surgery patients. For students interested in applying to the Stanford Plastic Surgery Residency Program, we strongly encourage a 4-week rotation.
This rotation does require that students have access to a car. Enterprise rental car on campus gives a discounted rate to Stanford affiliated students (Click Here). Make sure to mention your Stanford affiliation.
To initiate the pre-application process, prospective participants are invited to submit a preliminary mini application starting on the open date listed above. The mini application can be downloaded by clicking the button at the top of this page. Please email completed mini-applications to the address at the top of this page.
Submissions will be reviewed as they are received. Allocation to a spot is on a first-come, first-served basis thus those who submit applications later may have fewer rotation opportunities.
Due to limited space per period, early application is recommended. Once approved, you will receive your rotation slot.
We understand that plans change. If you need to change your sub-i schedule, please inform us as soon as possible. This allows us to accommodate you and any other students who may be eager to come to Stanford but were not able to attend as no spots were available.
