Stanford Plastic Surgery 2024 News Center

The Stanford Women’s Cancer Center, part of the Stanford Cancer Institute, has granted Dr. Arash Momeni and his team $50,000 through the 2025 Under One Umbrella-Women’s Cancer Innovation Award. This funding, made possible by Under One Umbrella philanthropic activities, will support their research project titled "Novel Transcutaneous Spectrophotometry Device for Reconstructive Flap Monitoring.

Dr. HyeRan Choo, DDS, DMD, MS, has been appointed as the inaugural director of the Stanford Orthodontic Airway Plate Treatment Program for Pierre Robin Sequence (SOAP for PRS), effective November 2024. This groundbreaking program at Stanford Medicine Children’s Health is the first in the nation to treat neonates with Pierre Robin Sequence non-surgically using Orthodontic Airway Plates (OAP).

PGY4 Resident Dr. Pooja Yesantharao has been awarded the Health Equity Fellowship for Trainees (HEFT) by Health Affairs, a leading journal in health policy. This fellowship aims to enhance the quality and quantity of health equity research and to cultivate future leaders in the field.

Chief Facilities and Sustainability Officer Helen Wilmot, SVP joins the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery's Dr. Paige Fox for a special Stanford Surgery Grand Rounds on sustainability in health care. Dr. Fox also serves as medical director of sustainability for Stanford Medicine. Stanford Plastic Surgery recently hosted eight women surgeons from the Pioneering Women in Reconstructive Surgery (PWRS) program. PWRS is a collaborative effort between non-profit ReSurge International and skincare company SkinCeuticals. The program is committed to advancing the careers of first-generation female reconstructive surgeons in low-income countries.
