Dr. Jill Helms Honored with 2024 Faculty Women’s Forum Outstanding Mentor Award
June 7, 2024
Dr. Jill Helms has been selected as a recipient of the 2024 Faculty Women’s Forum (FWF) Outstanding Mentor Award.
This award is for a faculty member who has consistently created opportunities for the academic advancement of women at Stanford. It recognizes an individual without an explicit leadership role at Stanford who promotes and sponsors Stanford women students, postdoctoral fellows, research staff, and/or faculty for opportunities and advancement.
On receiving the award, Dr. Helms shared, “I am grateful beyond words for this recognition and honored to be amongst the others who were recognized for their contributions. I have been fortunate to have a number of fantastic mentors in my life, but few were women, and none were people of color. I hope by mentoring such young people, I can help ensure that our next leaders benefit from the guidance of people from all walks of life.”
Dr. Helms received the award during the 5th Annual Faculty Women’s Forum Awards ceremony, which took place on Tuesday, May 28, 2024. She is the Vice Chair of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Department of Surgery and oversees the Helms Lab and the STaRS Internship Program.
